Hunting Tailors (Day 2 EA)

[Liliane Marten]

Liliane normally wasn't that into dresses but the potential cool of wearing a Dornish style one had quickly become a welcome idea.

And then she had talked her cousin into paying for most of it; So here she was looking for a tailor to have a dress made.

[Mariessa Tremaine]

Well, it wasn't Dornish fashion that was approaching Liliane, but it was certainly in the styles of the Reach, with its short sleeves and billowy skirts. Mariessa wasn't exactly in dire need of more dresses, but well... that didn't mean she didn't want to look around and see if anything caught her fancy enough to ask her father for it.

The auburn-haired Tremaine spotted the lady she had seen with the two men from the Vale at yesterday's dinner, and offered her a curtsy. "Ah, you must be lady Marten? Good afternoon!" she greeted cheerfully.

Smiling she gave a curtsy back. "Lady Marten is my Aunt, please call me Liliane. You are one of the Tremaine twins, yes?"

What luck! She certainly dressed like she knew better than Lily when dresses were concerned. Not that her dress was ugly but it was meant for cooler climes.

[Mariessa Tremaine]

"Ah, yes. I am Mariessa Tremaine, eldest daughter to Lord Marten Tremaine... by a couple of minutes," she added with a light-hearted chuckle before favouring Liliywith a warm smile. "I saw how well you handled yourself in the hunt this morning! It was very impressive... sure showed some of those knights."

"I only wish I had done as well as you... I fear I was still a little too tired so early in the morning."

"Oh? Up too late then?" she giggled.

"I don't often get to hunt in so big a group up north. And when I do I often say someone else caught it to avoid being scolded." She laughed, "I guess you could say I am here to make some work towards having something more feminine be among my successes from the journey lest my mother and my aunt put me to task for it. Namely getting a nice Southern style dress."

"Maybe a little?" Mari said with an honest chuckle.

She listened attentively, feeling like she could relate to the part of avoiding getting scolded. "Oh~..." she musted, "I had noticed your cousin was a little overdressed for the weather when I met him yesterday." Poor Leovall, she had thought, he had looked so positively flustered over his own condition, she had had a hard time to bring herself to commenting too much on it, including some suggestions.

"Well, I was going to look around a little bit myself to see what sort of wares and services might be available when there are so many people here, so if you do not mind the company, perhaps I could be of help, Lady Liliane?"

"He had been the one to suggest I do this actually. I guess things have come around full circle then? And company often makes these sorts of undertakings more pleasant. Especially one with a better eye for what I am looking for," she winked. "I think the tailor is over this way from what I was told?" She said leading them down the street.

[Mariessa Tremaine]

"Indeed, company for shopping is a vital part of it all. A lady should always have another woman nearby to give honest opinions on what looks pleasing on her," Mari smirked and fell in step with Lily. "Ah... I think so, yes? I admit it has been a while since I was last here, and it there wasn't a tourney here then at the time, so it all seems so... different from what I remember."

Along Market Row the buildings have small wooden signs, dangling from chains where they can be easily seen. It looks as though most of them have been recently repainted for the festival, providing a riot of colour. It does not take long to spot one that is most certainly a tailor: it depicts a bolt of fabric and a spool of thread, the thread winds up and around and through the eye of a silvery needle.

As you approach, you see through the open shutters a set of shelves that run along the side wall, piled high with fabrics in greens, blues, and yellows. Inside sits a pair of women, a mother and her daughter from the look of it. The daughter is hand-stitching a ribbon onto the bodice of a green gown, while her mother works the foot-driven sewing machine.

"Of course!" she replied to Mariessa, "A dress for court is meant to be seen. How are you to decide on one without someone to see it?"

Perfect!

Liliane entered cheerfully. "Excuse me? I would like to commission a dress," she asked politely.
