Poisoned Plots? (D8, EM)

[Mariessa Tremaine]

Having sent a message ahead early in the morning to Kylie, to let her know she wished to speak, Mari eventually made it to the Redwyne pavillion. It was perhaps odd to see such a noble lady dressed only in her riding clothes... well, at least for those who didn't know the Tremaine heir very well.

Mari had an air of no-nonsense as she announced herself to a servant that notified Kylie Redwyne.

Kylie wasn't quite dressed, but she didn't think a fellow noble lady would mind much. Her hair was done, now it was just a matter of getting into this dress. She'd saved it for the jousting.

Claryssa opened the tent flap. "Lady Tremaine." She curtsied. "Please, join us. My Lady is not entirely ready for the day but she didn't think you'd hold it against her. Would you like some tea?"

"I would certainly not hold it against a lady on a day like today," she chuckled slightly and nodded. "Tea sounds lovely, thank you."

Good thing Mari had left Kevith behind. It would just a lot of awkward standing around outside and waiting anyway, and he generally considered the pavillions in daytime to be a pretty safe place for her.

Stepping inside, the Tremaine took stock of her surrounding swiftly. For someone like Claryssa, it was obviously more than just brief curiosity - it was the habit of someone used to checking for potential dangers.

Kylie smiled and curtsied as best she could in underclothes and a dress not quite on. She giggled at the image she must have made. "Lady Mariessa. Forgive my current state. I'm not quite on my game this morning. Please, by all means, take a seat while we wrangle my gown."

Claryssa returned to Lady Mariessa, tea in hand and curiosity in her mind, gesturing to a seat before going back to lace Kylie in. "How does the morning find you, my Lady? Are you to ride?" the Braavosi asked.

Mariessa curtsied in return to Kylie. "Good morning, Lady Kylie. Please, I should be the one asking your forgiveness, for intruding upon you so early in the day. And my, it is such a lovely gown, too!" She gave some earnest admiration of Kylie's dress. "Really, you have such fine sense for fashion, lady Kylie. I am a little envious."

Smiling, Mari took a seat as she accepted the tea. "Perhaps I am?" she mused knowingly. "But, to be blunt, that is not why I am here this morning. I spoke to squire Derrin last evening, when he came to offer his apologies and goodbyes to ser Harben. He mentioned your name." The Tremaine heiress look at Kylie, awaiting her reaction to the subject.

Kylie laughed a bit. "I wish I could take all the credit, but The Arbor is very forgiving and allows women a large variety of clothes."

At the mention of Derrin and Ser Harben Kylie's eyes grew surprised, then soft. "Last evening, you say? Oh Claryssa! Perhaps he wasn't arrested after all." Her handmaid finished the lacing, after which she went and sat across from Mariessa.

"I take it you want the details of what happened. The only trouble is that I have no idea where to begin. Are you aware of what really happened to Leana, the maid of Lady Lysa's?"

"I am aware someone probably killed her, yes," Mari nodded. "Lady Lysa was rather upset over the whole thing, and the only thing my sister and I could find out from her and the ladies-in-waiting was that she had been seen with a stableboy, but... it was a clue that didn't lead anywhere. The stableboy had no hand in what happened."

She was rather more intrigued by the Redwyne though, who seemed to have been made well aware of other things. "I take it you know more?"

Kylie blinked and looked at Claryssa. "We'd not heard that, actually." Kylie told her as she took a sip of her tea.

"Leana was stabbed, Lady Mariessa." Claryssa filled in. "I saw the wound myself when they rolled the poor girl over. A friend also saw the same thing which removed all doubt."

"People do, of course, die at The Arbor on occasion. But I don't usually see it, and the idea that someone was murdering... Between that and being nearly hurt or worse by a cutpruse at the market, I confess I had a nightmare or two. So when poor Ser Harben was poisoned, I was resolved to do something so I might no longer be afraid."

The Tremaine girl nodded. She could understand that sentiment very well herself, having once been at the mercy of others without honor.

"I'm sorry to hear of this unfortunate incident, lady Kylie - but I am glad to see you are choosing to become stronger from this, rather than becoming a frightened child." Sipping her own tea, Mari took a deep breath. "Ser Harben is a dear childhood friend of mine... and I owe him a debt for saving my life once. It is why I have vowed to him that I will find the one behind this attempt on his life." And knowing what Harben had told her, it seemed likely the handmaid had died because she knew too much.

"We both want to find the truth, to find justice. I suggest we work together, lady Kylie, Claryssa."

Both Kylie and Claryssa made sympathetic sounds when it came to her history with Ser Harben, nodding at her resolve.

"Well, we already know Derrin delivered the poison unwittingly. He was planning to join the Night's Watch. It's just awful an innocent like he got caught up in a murderer's plot. I wish I could have done more for him." She lamented. "And tell us, how is Ser Harben? We've both been praying to the Mother for him."

"Derrin told us the man who gave him the substance was an apothecary somewhat close to Maester Hubert. That his name was Petyr or Nathyn, and he lives in town." Claryssa added. "But we did report all of this to Lord Bromley. That's why we were surprised to hear he hadn't been arrested."
