[D7 LM] Hubert, we have a problem (Hubert's Study)

[Maester Simon]

Simon had intended to call upon his colleague after the melee, but then the poor kid had started throwing up and he had been rushed to the castle. After that it would have been rather awkward to call upon Hubert about the knife, seeing how he was busy saving someone's life. Chances were he was going to scold him for not coming earlier to him about the matter, but it wasn't as he could have expected things to go south as badly as they had. Arriving to the castle he asked a servant to take him to Hubert's study, emphasizing that he had something important as as long as ser Harben was not dying at the very moment without Hubert holding his hand he really did need to see the esteemed maester.

So moment later Simon found himself knocking the Hubert's door with a bundle under his left arm.

[Maester Hubert]

"Enter," came a gruff and hoarse voice from within. Hubert was hunched over a faded scroll, open tomes scattered on the desk where, just days before, Leana had lain dead.

[Maester Simon]

"Good morning." Simon greeted, stepping in. Figuring the other man hadn't really slept and didn't have time for empty pleasantries he went right to the business. "I was supposed to show you this after the melee, but..." he shrugged starting to unwrap the dagger. "One our men at arms, Kevith by name, says he found it by his tent." As the cloth came loose, it revealed a dagger and vial sitting gingerly on Simon's palm. "So, the vial was within the handle." Figuring Hubert could come to the obvious conclusion, he extended his arms to the older maester. "Now. I guess we have a problem."

[Maester Hubert]

Hubert looked up, studied the dagger, "and what do you need me for? If you suspect the man-at-arms of something, you should be talking to Ser Kenway, not me."

[Maester Simon]

"No, I don't suspect him. He's a brute, not an assassin." Simon tilted his head. "You are not curious about that?" he nodded at the vial. "I mean, I am not an expert but looks awfully like it could be poison. Or are you telling me Ser Harben had an acute stomach flu?" Simon looked the master markedly. "Of course chances are that this is not the poison - all things considered." Harben had likely ingested something - as he had been retching things. While this thing was used to coat the blade. "I mean, I do plan to take it to Ser Kenway but I figured I could take a look at the vial first. But I don't have the equipment." he left the question hanging in the air.

[Maester Hubert]

"I see," Hubert huffed wearily. "A man was poisoned, and you come to me with what appears to be a poison vial. What possible curiosity could I have beyond the nature of your connection to the young man? There is nothing in this room that's going to tell you who owned the dagger, so if it's not yours and it's not your man's, speak to Ser Kenway."

[Maester Simon]

"As you say." Simon wrapped the cloth over both the vial and the dagger, bobbing his head. "Good luck with Ser Harben." he added sincerely before making his way out. Once outside and further way from measter's door his let out a sigh. It seemed he had one Ser Kenway to find.
