[D1 LM] The Forest Edge

[Kylie Redwyne]

The pavilion was being set up, and even Claryssa had shooed her from the place. She loved coming to the mainland but it was a tiring journey to make. If she was anything but useless when it came to unloading things and setting up apartments they might have been finished early. And finishing early could mean a nap before the welcome this evening.

Seeing as she'd nowhere pressing to be, she decided to take a walk to see the forest. There weren't forests on the island so they always intrigued her. Up ahead she thought she saw someone walking along the same path.

[Leovall Marten]

Intent on sticking to the edges of the forest, but still having a look, Leovall had his sword on his belt just in case. Feeling quite warm and not realising it was his heavier than needed garb he paused to dab at his forehead. Turning to glance around him he spots Kylie approaching. Not knowing who she is he lifts his hand politely and dips his head.

Kylie approached the young man, smiling as she curtsied. "I see I'm not the only one out enjoying the air. I don't believe we've met before. I am Kylie Redwyne."

The gentleman was well dressed and very attractive. The sword on his hip did not go unnoticed. "Are you expecting trouble along the woods' edge?"

[Leovall Marten]

"I'm charmed." Leovall freely admits, bending a knee and taking her hand if she would allow him to kiss the back of it. "Leovall Marten. I would not forget if we had met before my lady." He smiled handsomely as he rose. Turning to stare into the woods he gently nods his heads. "One of the locals mentioned outlaws sometimes living in the forest. I thought better safe than sorry." Returning his gaze to her his smile quickly returns. "Of course now that you're here I will have to keep you safe too - if that is not too presumptuous of me Lady Kylie?"

"You're too kind, Lord Leovall." She smiled brightly as he rose. He certainly held her attention for more reasons than his looks. She glanced toward the woods herself before looking back to him. "I had not heard such rumors. I accept your offer most humbly."

She sighed as they began to walk. "I always enjoy coming to the forests when I'm on the mainland. The Arbor is beautiful, but does not have such wooded areas. If you are a Marten, that means you're in the mountains? There you must be used to the woods."

[Leovall Marten]

Leovall listened and took the time to admire the young woman. He couldn't quite tell her age, though her speech suggested either a certain maturity or an excellent upbringing. The name Redwyne rang a bell, but he couldn't quite place it immediately. However, her mention of the Arbor helped. Arbor gold? "Your geography is good my lady, except that my House is a little unusual as we're by the coast. We're named after beech martens, which also live in the hills and by the sea. Where we are it's more hills and rolling grasslands than anything else. It's beautiful though, and the cove is one of my favourite spots in all the Vale, but perhaps we have too few trees. I enjoy visiting woods and forests because of that. A change of scenery." He remarks, walking beside her and keeping to the path.

His voice was smooth and pleasant. The way he spoke about his home, one could tell he truly loved it as she did hers. At the mention of the coast, she lit up. "My geography is not as good as yours, I'm sure. I try to keep up with the mainland but I struggle at times. But your home truly sounds lovely. The Arbor has grasslands as well. They're the best place to ride aside from the beaches." She giggled a bit. "Vintners are surprisingly opposed to horses trampling the grapes."

"So does the coast mean you swim or sail?"

[Leovall Marten]

"Our homes sound similar. Well, minus the grapes. And being an important, and large, island." He chuckles with amusement himself. "I would like to see the Arbor one day."

To the question he glances up and then back to her, enjoying the company. "I like swimming and I like boats, but I've not sailed myself. Your family has a large fleet, correct? We have a port for others to stop at or collect tin, but no fleet of our own. Maybe one day." Giving a little shrug, not too concerned, he looks to her curiously. "And you Lady Kylie?"

She laughed along with Leovall. "Yes, we do have a fleet, and our ports are known as well. They're used for shipments for far more than wine. I'm sure The Arbor would suit you. If you and the Martens were ever to visit, we would be happy to host you." She dipped her head and and came back up to meet his eyes a moment before looking forward again.

"I do love to swim, and ride my horse along the beaches. And yes, I sail. It's expected of one on an island, I think."

Her face grew ever so slightly pensive. "You said you export tin?"

[Leovall Marten]

Leovall looked touched. “We’ve just met and I already feel like you are a close friend my lady. Your offer is much too kind.” And it really was.

It made sense the woman before him could sail. He wondered what kind of ship she preferred? A question for another time.

“Yes, we have one of the largest mines on the Eastern shores.”
