House Creation

House Creation

While all the NPCs are drawn from Houses within the existing Game of Thrones canon, this is not an essential requirement for players. The Festival of Roses draws more than hundred guests from the surrounding parts of Westeros, including many knights, lords, and ladies from the other side of the nearby border with the Stormlands. Hedge Knights from near and far who have found themselves on Grassy Vale's doorstep are in attendance for the displays. And those wishing to curry political favour in the region, but without the pull to be invited to Highgarden, may use House Meadows as a stepping stone on their climb.

In other words: I am less interested in restricting your choices/concepts as players, if you can spin a good story.

Players are invited to decide amongst themselves if their characters know each other, if they come from a canon House, or one they created themselves, and what it was that brought them to Grassy Vale. Keep in mind, however, that everything - from your House name to your coat of arms and words - is subject to GM veto. Just for the sake of my sanity.

So You Want to Make Your Own House?

If you've decided to create a wholly new house, from scratch, the first thing you need to ask is: how much granularity do I need?

The Core Rulebook provides detailed information on how to build a noble house and define its parameters, but before you dive in to all that, are you going to need it? are you going to use it? Players are most welcome to go through the process as a thought experiment, or to enhance their experience, but it is not necessary to drill down this precisely in order to enjoy the Festival.

Players are still restricted to a maximum Status of 5. A Status 5 lord would put your house roughly on par with House Meadows, and may represent a Lord of similar status from another region (such as the Riverlands or Westerlands); while a lord at Status 4 or 3 could be a banner lord, sworn to House Meadows.

If you wish to go through the full process of creating a House, dice rolls should be done in accordance with rolling for gameplay. Please show all your work in a thread in your PF.

I'm Definitely Doing This! What do I Roll?
There are some restrictions on generating your own House.

Step 1: Choose Your Region
● Dragonstone and the Iron Islands will not be permitted for Houses
● Replace "King's Landing" with "Crownlands"
● Replace "Mountain of the Moon" with "The Vale"
● You may randomise your Region by rolling 3d6, re-rolling any result of 4 or 7, and using Table 6-1 on pg.97

Step 2: Determine when your House was Founded
● Roll 1d3, or choose from the following:
Code: Select all
1  Established  1d6 Events
2  Recent       1d6-1 Events
3  New          1d6-2 Events

Step 3: Determine History
● Roll for the number of historical events, as per the founding of your House (minimum 1)
● Roll 3d6 for each historical event as per Table 6-4 on pg.103

Step 4: Determine Attributes
● Roll 6d6 for each of the seven attributes.
● Apply the modifiers for your selected region as per Table 6-2 on pg.100
● Apply the modifiers for your historical events
● Each House member rolls 1d6 and adds the result to one attribute. No more than 2d6 can be added to any attribute in this way.
● Determine your Attributes as per the Tables on pp.100-101

Investing in Your Holdings

● Attributes are not consumed by investments.
● Domains may not exceed four features, and are limited to one Community each.
Example: Your domain may have a coastline, river, grassland, and a small town; but it could not have a coastline, river and two hamlets.
● As per the Errata, no Domain may have more than two Wealth investments
Example: Your domain features a Port and Marketplace. In order to build a Sept, you first need to invest in a second domain.
