[D1 EM] Interaction: Did You Pack This Yourself?

Note: This Interaction is compulsory!

You have arrived at Grassfield Keep, seat of your hosts, House Meadows. Guards have been posted at the twin gates and, in order to enter the Keep, you must first get past them. They are searching through the belongings of each visitor, and being rather thorough about it. The guards show no interest in people leaving the Keep; and those entering without any kinds of bags or luggage are allowed to pass with only a cursory visual examination.

They are confiscating items deemed to be dangerous or illegal - though their definition of such seems to vary from one person to the next.

Before making any rolls, you will need to choose your travelling parties. You may opt to arrive alone, or as part of a group. Cohorts are assumed to be part of the PC’s group. Once you have set your group, each character must select one of the following options to roll. Players must also select an option and roll for their character’s cohort.

Post your roll(s) below, along with the names of the members in your group.

Option A: I Have Nothing to Hide
If you must suffer the indignity of having a commoner paw through your underthings, you will at least do so with decorum.
Roll: Status (Breeding, Reputation), Challenging (TN9).
Failure: The guards find nothing, but your inability to remain composed attracts attention. Gain 1 Suspect point.
Success (one degree): You manage to bite your tongue and are eventually permitted entry.
Success (two+ degrees): Not only have you upheld your bearing, but also your presence of mind. Gain 1 Suspicion point.

Option B: You Don’t Need to Look in There
Using your wiles, you attempt to convince the guards to overlook some item(s) that you don’t want people to know about, or possibly shouldn’t even have.
Roll: Deception (Bluff) or Persuasion (Charm, Convince, Intimidate, Seduce), Formidable (TN12)
Critical Failure: You are discovered. The guards confiscate the offending item(s) and you gain 2 Suspect points.
Failure: The guards are not convinced. Dangerous or illegal items are confiscated, but things that are simply embarrassing (or that the guards do not realise the importance of) may simply be flashed about. Gain 1 Suspect point.
Success (one degree): You successfully divert the guards attention and your secrets remain intact.
Success (two+ degrees): Your secrets remain your own, but the guards let slip something they shouldn’t. Gain 1 Suspicion point.

Option C: Greasing Palms
Few people will say no to some extra coin, and these guards are no exception.
Roll: Cunning (Bargain) or Persuasion (Bargain), Formidable (TN12), gain 1 Bonus Die for each Gold Dragon you spend on this bribery.
Critical Failure: You have given offence. You are arrested and escorted to the Keep’s holding cells to await Lord Meadow’s pleasure. Gain 3 Suspect points.
Failure: You have the misfortune to find the only honourable guard in Westeros. Roll Deception (Bluff) or Persuasion (Charm), difficulty Formidable (TN12), to smooth things over. Failing this second roll has the same outcome as if you had suffered a Critical Failure, while success grants you entry to the Keep. Pay the bribe amount. Dangerous/illegal items are confiscated, gain 2 Suspect points.
Success (one degree): The guards takes your money and allows you into the keep.
Success (two+ degrees): Your generosity is welcomed. The guards accept your money and even let slip some information. Gain 1 Suspicion point.

Option D: This Ain’t Exactly the Mississippi
Grassfield Keep isn’t a mighty castle, and the twin gates aren’t the only way in. This option is not available to anyone who hopes to bring a horse, or a considerable amount of luggage into the Keep with them.
Roll: Stealth (Sneak), Formidable (TN12)
Critical Failure: You have not only gotten caught, but you have gotten caught in some compromising fashion. You are arrested and escorted to the Keep’s holding cells to await Lord Meadow’s pleasure. Gain 3 Suspect points.
Failure: You are caught by the guards. Roll Deception (Bluff) or Persuasion (Charm), difficulty Formidable (TN12), to smooth things over. Failing this second roll has the same outcome as if you had suffered a Critical Failure, while success grants you entry to the Keep. Dangerous/illegal items are confiscated, gain 2 Suspect points.
Success (one+ degree): You make your way into the Keep without attracting any attention (as far as you know).

Each travelling party will have a separate RP thread for the outcomes of your rolls.

The younger twin of House Tremaine showed an endearing frown when her possessions were brought to question. She stepped in the way of her luggage and stated, "I would much rather you not undo the organization of my belongings." She let out a soft sigh and made a small gesture with her hand to onlookers. "But truly, it would ruin the surprise of my apparel if it were displayed now, especially not on my person." Jyn fidgeted with her ponytail and then dipped her head. "It would do me a great honor to leave my luggage untouched."

There were a few odd looks, as someone had a sense of deja vu with the next luggage... and the lady it belonged to.

"Please don't upset a lady's personal belongings," she held her chin high, giving off an air of regal bearing. Then she turned away, a little bashful as she hid behind some of the wavy locks of her hair. "It would be... embarrassing." It sounded too sweet and sincere to bother a young noble lady with the indecency of going through her smallclothes and what-not, right?

Simon followed the Tremaine girls, graciously showing his wares to the guards. The guards seemed rather interested with his bags and pouches, pulling out various items and questioning the poor man about their use.

"That's for wounds, good man. Stops the bleeding. And that powder, that's for constipation." Simon smile graciously as the guardsman tossed the once-suspicious bag back at him as if had touched something dirty. Simon was getting annoyed, but did his best to hide it. These men were just doing their job. Or so he thought until he saw one of the guards literally sampling the contents of one of his vials. "You... you fellow there, that's for the ladies. You'll only get runs if you drink it." Luckily for Simon, the guard did not drop the vial, instead returning it carefully. "Thank you." the young maester offered his thanks.

Kevith, while not protesting to them going through his stuff, wasn't happy either. "Oy, shouldn't ye be spending yer time better? I serve m'lord Tremaine, who serves yer lord Meadows. Cannae see the point to this, really," the big man grumbled sourly.

Not that they could actually hold him on anything other than his behaviour, but at least he wasn't looking to start a fight. Yet.

Marten watched the men search, or sometimes not, the rest of his party.

"Mmm." He rumbled with a wry smile, crossing his arms across his chest. "I forgot about this part. Never was my favorite part of going to tourneys, after all." Still he managed to avoid any more grumbling as his packs were searched.

Dismounting, taking the reins of each horse and stepping to the side he dips his head to the guards. "Check if you must. This one has my weapons for the melee and joust, this one my clothes and what not." He said, indicating each animal. "I trust you will alert us if there is an issue, but I assure you that we have nothing to hide from our honourable hosts."

Standing up straight and proud Leovall would endure the search stoically from then on. Only at one point does he catch Liliane's gaze and frown once, slightly shaking his head. Was this really necessary?

Travelling with her family as she was Liliane was less worried about what the guards would do if they found her arms but she knew someone in the entourage would rat her out to her aunt if they waved them around like they had done some of the things that traveling merchant ahead of them had. It was time to do something she hated. It was time to play the girl card.

"You wouldn't make a mess of a lady's dresses would you?" she asked with a charming and innocent smile.

Alicent waited to the side, standing next to her brother and his wife, Dyanna, as they waited for the guards to finish checking through their things. The two siblings, despite their wildly different looks - he a tall, dark-haired man dressed simply and her a tiny, silvery-haired girl in an elaborate dress (that was still relatively simple for nobility) - wore matching stoic, serious expressions, and were similarly silent. Meanwhile, Dyanna chatted pleasantly with the guards as she held her infant son close to her chest.

Alicent let out a breath when they finally let them go. What a pain. At least it was over.
